Behind the Curtain

Behind the Curtain

what comes to mind for this image is something we did as kids with our hands while saying the following words…

This is the church
This is the steeple
Open the doors
and see all the people

Behind the Curtain

Behind the Curtain

Out of the six buds I’ve seen on this cactus after our (little bit of) rain this year, this is the first time I’ve seen one of them open…I did happen to catch one before it closed, but didn’t have my camera handy; when I went back outside to get a picture or two, it had already closed.

If you’re not familiar with these cactus flowers, they take weeks and weeks before they open up. Once they bloom, they’re only open for 6-8 hours before they close up, then it’s another few weeks before they wither up and fall off.

This is an in-camera double exposure. The first image is of three agave leaves, close to where the cactus flower was. The second image is of the cactus flower. Post processing was done in Perfect Photo Suite 8, whereby I used the same settings for the outer two leaves, mostly three sets of  “glow(s)”. The inner part was mostly adding detail and the original image blended back in.
